How compound interest grows savings

Compounding means that returns can earn additional returns over time. The result depends on your starting balance, contribution amount, annual rate, compounding frequency, and investment horizon.

Illustrative growth rates are not guarantees. Market investments can lose value, and actual returns, fees, taxes, and inflation affect your purchasing power.

Worked example

Example: $10,000 compounded annually at a hypothetical 5% rate grows to about $16,289 after 10 years without additional contributions.
